Yesterday was incredible. I went to the EO youthday (it's called EOJD in Dutch, Evangelische Omroep Jongeren Dag, which is a huge event for christian youths, over 30.000 people came this year)! I never ever regretted the first time I came. Back then, Mari-lee asked me to join her (she's christian as well) and it was terrific... and addicting! Yesterday was my third time!
Let me tell you some more about the EO youthday: hit the 'more strawberrytea'-button!
What is it?
It's a huge event in Geldredome (Arnhem) where all the visitors listen to religious bands, sing, dance, watch, praise, cry, pray and just feel inspired to go on following Jesus. And believe me, at school I sometimes feel alone regarding being christian, I really do. Yet when you're in a stadium together with 30.000 youths from all over the Netherlands, Europe even, professing you love Jesus, you feel strong and fastened. And that gives me energy to cheer up and try again.
For who is it?
When I would say it's set up for christians, I would lie! Of course, christians are the main target group, but also people who are intrested in christianity or want to become so. And even when you don't belong in any of those three groups you're far more than welcome. The EO youthday is one of the best ways to be introduced to christianity.
What kind of music is there to be listened to?
I know there are too many prejudges about church. Why people always think all we sing are Psalms I don't know. It's a pity and amiss.
Back to business, mostly there are three international bands. This year it were Sinlock (rap), Casting Crowns (rock/pop/no-idea-how-to-describe-it) and LZ7(dance music)! I prefered Casting Crowns above the other two, so here is the song that moved me most. I know at least three quarter of you are going to skip this part of the post but it's worth it. So please listen to it.
And you know what? Everybody sang together all of the songs. Everybody danced and jumped and when they were moved they raised their hands. People were absolutely overwhelmed with emotions, happiness, the everlasting craving to dance. And nobody judged each other, because we all felt the same. I wish it would be always like that: no judgements regarding each other.
You might say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one.
Sounds good! If I would want to go, where can I get my tickets?
The tickets are available at the eo site (http://www.eo.nl/algemeen/eojongerendag/) from March on. The tickets are 5 euro's (Which is nothing right? You can say what you want, but they do reckon with our dutchies stinginess)!
Here are some pictures I took during the day.
Oh, and we watched the soccergame of course! Holland-Denmark. We lost tragically but it was so enjoyable to watch the game with 30.000 people :D
The presenter, Manuel Venderbos. I took a (blurry) picture of him because my sister loves him.
This picture is hilarious! Mari-lee and I both drew moustaches on our fingers to take a picture with. But then, when we took the picture, an old man behind us decided it was time to be part of the picture as well. Thumbs up for the man :D
So, this is how the stadium looked like. Pretty impressing, hmm? (:
I've had such an entrancing day. I wish I could go back. But the energy I got from this event won't leave me. And Jesus won't leave me. But I'm already looking forward to next year (:
Are you intrested in coming next time? Or do you still have any questions about the EO youtday, or christianity in general? You can ask me anything at the page 'contact'. Or just in a comment (: Don't be shy, I would be delighted to help you! :D
Lots of love!
